RYLA
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

A life-changing opportunity for young people to grow, lead and believe in themselves
Every summer, Pwllheli Rotary proudly sponsors a young person to attend RYLA – the Rotary Youth Leadership Award: an unforgettable residential leadership experience designed to help young people discover their potential, build confidence, and develop skills that last a lifetime.

RYLA isn’t about sitting in classrooms or listening to lectures. It’s about learning by doing — through challenge, teamwork, reflection and fun.

What is RYLA?

RYLA is an internationally recognised Rotary leadership programme for young people who want to grow as individuals, develop leadership skills, and connect with others in a supportive, inspiring environment.

The course we sponsor usually takes place in August at Arthog Adventure Centre, set in the stunning landscape of Snowdonia. Over several days, participants are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones in a safe, professionally led environment.

What young people gain

RYLA helps young people to:

-
Build confidence and self-belief
-
Develop communication and teamwork skills
-
Learn how to lead and how to be a great team member
-
Improve resilience and problem-solving
-
Make new friends from different backgrounds
-
Discover strengths they didn’t know they had
Many past participants describe RYLA as transformational - a turning point that helped them feel more capable, motivated and ready for future challenges.
What parents can expect

We know that sending a young person away on a residential course is a big step. RYLA is:

-
Fully supervised by experienced instructors
-
Delivered by Rotary in partnership with trusted outdoor education professionals
-
Designed to be inclusive, supportive and development-focused
-
A balance of challenge, care, reflection and enjoyment
Young people return home not only tired and happy, but more confident, independent and positive about themselves.
Our Rotary commitment

As a Rotary Club, we believe deeply in investing in young people. Each year, we sponsor one place (sometimes two) on the RYLA course, covering the cost so that financial barriers do not prevent someone from taking part.
If you know a young person who would benefit from this opportunity — or if you’re a young person ready to challenge yourself and grow — we’d love to hear from you.

RYLA doesn’t just build leaders. It builds belief.
