Rotary International
Pwllheli Rotary is part of a bigger organisation making a difference around the world

History
Rotary International is one of the world’s oldest and most respected service organisations, with a simple but powerful idea at its heart: bringing people together to make positive, lasting change in their communities and across the globe.
It all began back in 1905, when a young lawyer named Paul Harris gathered three friends in Chicago to talk about how they could support one another in business and give back to society. They called themselves “Rotary” because the meetings rotated between each member’s office. From that small start, Rotary has grown into a worldwide movement.

Rotary Today
Today, there are 1.4 million Rotarians in more than 46,000 clubs across nearly every country in the world. Add to that the tens of thousands of Rotaract (clubs for young adults 18-30+) and Interact (clubs for young people 12-18yrs) clubs, and you get a truly global family of people of all ages working for the common good.

Rotary focuses its efforts of 7 key areas

What makes Rotary special is its combination of local action and global reach. A club in a small town might raise funds for a community food bank, whilst also contributing to international projects like building wells in Africa or supporting disaster relief after an earthquake.
Rotary has even earned a place at the United Nations for its role in promoting peace and humanitarian efforts.
At its heart, Rotary is about friendship, service, and making a difference. Members come from all walks of life, but they’re united by a shared commitment: to use their time, talents and enthusiasm to improve lives, both at home and further afield.
